How I stay motivated

Theres nothing you cant do if you’re dedicated enough.

I know this year has brought challenges we couldn’t avoid like gyms closing, loss of jobs, sickness and fear, but in the end its up to us on how we handle situations and given circumstances.

If you’d had asked me a year ago if Id be able to workout without a gym I would have said absolutely never, but we have no control to do what we would prefer, take what you have and do the best you can with it. Wrapping resistance bands to the back of my door and lifting cat litter for weights was what I had and I did the best I could with it. Running outside with my dog was not my favourite cardio but I did it for the time being knowing it would give me the endorphins I craved during the tough times.

Now that some gyms have opened up and have sanitary precautions in place I am lucky enough to workout with equipment again. I absolutely love my morning cardio and am so privileged to have a Peloton bike at home for when I need to get in a quick workout.

But the key question, how I stay motivated comes down to knowing what my standards are. I respect myself enough to know I am worthy of feeling my best and showing up day after day whether or not I “feel like it” knowing that no matter what, after I workout I will have a sense of accomplishment.

A few tips I use to boost my motivation in the gym are:

  1. Don’t take myself seriously

  2. Remember not every day will be a PR day but consistency is key

  3. Set goals, work to hit them and don’t quit

  4. Be flexible and set a plan

  5. Set up a workout before going to the gym

  6. Excite others about working out through social media

  7. Post your workout to social media .. hehe yes it may seem silly but its been a good source of momentum for the “bad days”

What motivates YOU and what’s been your biggest success this year?
