How to stay consistent and focused with the gyms closed

It’s easy to forget to stay on top of your fitness goals when the gyms are closed due to Covid-19. If you are struggling to make fitness a priority here are some guidelines you can follow to stay on track to the break a sweat, and get that heart rate up.

  1. Write down your goal

I find this helpful personally. Write your goal down on your notes app or on paper and keep it in sight each day so you can keep working towards your goal actively and once you reach your goal set a more challenging one and keep the time frame challenging so you stay in sight of the end goal.

  2. Find someone or something to keep yourself accountable

Reach out to a friend who is struggling too and you can keep each other on track whether that’s over social media or in person, this is a great time to make dates for zoom workouts and FaceTime check-ins.

  3. Keep track of your progress with a journal

Writing down your goals on Myfitness Pal is great but keeping a daily journal of your progress can be helpful when you feel like nothing is changing. Purchase a tape measure and keeping photo diaries can be better than a scale so you don’t overthink the scales numbers too much, since your body is constantly fluctuating with fluids and sodium which effects your weight.

  4. Purchase new fitness gear

I always feel excited to workout when I get a new pair of shoes or a new water bottle. The growing crisis of fast fashion is an issue so choose clothing and gear that is well made and high quality so it lasts longer and won’t contribute to the forgotten pile of stuff you got on a whim.

  5. Make workouts exciting

If you always bike for cardio try boxing or jogging. If you’re not a fan of traditional cardio another great heart rate workout is skipping or climbing stairs if there’s some near you! Even youtube offers some great low impact cardio videos if you’re curious.

  6. Get a self tanner.

Yep. This always makes me feel better when I’m feeling low. I love Isle of Paradise from Sephora. Just a few drops in lotion and you can apply it before bed and wake up feeling smooth, soft and have a gorgeous glow.

  7. Go grocery shopping

Having fresh colourful fruits and vegetables in the fridge makes for a successful day > week > month.. etc

Check out an delivery service if you’re unable to go to the store yourself and remember to choose organic when possible to avoid harmful pesticides and chemicals. Chop up your fruits and veggies yourself and you’ll be less likely to make poor choices that can halt your progress

  8. Give yourself a reward for a successful week

Maybe you love sleeping in an extra 20 minutes or getting a size up coffee in the morning, set this as your

  9. Follow someone on social media who makes you motivated

Knowing there’s someone else out there who’s making time for their fitness can help you mold a schedule that keeps you on track.

  10. Set a bedtime alarm

Going to bed at a certain hour can set you up for success in the day ahead. Making enough time to rest and recover is important to maintain your immunity and recover from your training.
